In their newest book, Saving Paradise, feminist theologians Rebecca Parker and Rita Brock have discovered that during the first 1,000 years of Christianity, the community was focused on earth as a paradise with a search for grace, justice, peace and compassion in the here and now. All of this was lost and largely replaced with the “suffering and dying Christ” as Christianity became the religion of Empire. The Rev. Jann Halloran explores what this lost history might have to teach us about the roots of western religion and what might be retrieved as we consider today’s issues of environmental struggle.
